The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee was regaled with Tagore’s Music, Rabindra Sangeet on the occasion of the 154th Birth Anniversary of the eminent Indian Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on May 7th, 1861. An intimate audience was witness to the concert.

Rabindra sangeet is a repertoire of over 2200 songs that possibly encompasses the entire gamut of human emotions. This recital celebrated Tagore’s spiritualism, and its overlap with mortal love or prem, and the philosophy that informs his worldview.

Singer Kamalini Mukherji, who is an exponent of Tagore’s music, and a popular artist on television and stage in Kolkata, enchanted the audience with her voice. The very accomplished Kamalini has cut several discs with HMV Saregama. She has a Master’s degree in English literature from the University of Cambridge, and has made it her mission to take this cultural heritage into the new generation and beyond its geographical confines. She divides her time between India and the USA, successfully carrying the music and the message of Tagore to an international audience.

The program was organized by SEHER, a leading cultural organization known for large cultural festivals and prestigious cultural events including the Indian classical dance extravaganza for the recent visit of President Obama and his entourage at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
