India –‘Carnival for a Cause’ hosted by TajMahal Hotel in aid of breast cancer

d-g-sonam-kapoorOn Sunday, 19th March, 2016, the poolside lawns of The TajMahal Hotel, New Delhi were the popular venue for the glitterati who were specially invited for the ‘Carnival for a Cause’ event to spread awareness about breast cancer.  The joint event by TajMahal Hotel and Elle, was an initiative to raise funds to support the Ogaan Cancer Foundation and Women’s Cancer Initiative- Tata Memorial Hospital that work in the area of breast health. The Elle Carnival raises funds through the sale of designer wear and luxury merchandise at an affordable price. Delhi came out in full support of the cause and participated in the carnival with great enthusiasm.

The elegant evening affair was attended by well-known members of the fashion fraternity, many of whom had their creations being retailed at the venue at affordable prices. This being the last day of the Amazon India Fashion Week unfolding at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the fashion junta was particularly relaxed, and enjoyed the sundowners. Some of the designers at the venue wereAtsu, Pallavi Mohan, Alpana and Neeraj, Peter D’scoli, RuchikaSachdeva, SahilKochar amongst others who extended their support to the cause.

Participating designers included RohitBal, Shantanuand Nikhil, Gaurav Gupta, TarunTahiliani, JJ Valaya, PerniaQureshi, Dior and Forest Essentials. A silent auction featuring designer merchandise from prestige brands like Tod’s, Gucci, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Hermes contributed to the event. SonamKapoor, a dedicated Ambassador to the cause, donated a special bag to raise proceeds for the cause.

The carnival also featured several fun activities such as tarot-reading, a special kid’s corner and a live band. The theme for the evening was nautical and several played up the Sailor look. The Hotel had put together a sumptuous menu offering Spanish style Queen olive wrapped prawns, tapas and tortillas along with Coastal Indian delicacies such as Beetroot Appams, AlooPosto amongst others.

These efforts include,having lady butlers, providing crèches at the hotel for female staff; providing pepper spray, security manned home drop facility to female staff &self-defense classes, as a safety precaution, hosting Women’s cricket and polo teams in rooms that are specially equipped for the safety, comfort & care of ladies.

WCI-TMH was founded by MrsDeviekaBhojwani in partnership with the Tata Memorial Hospital in 2003, to take care of various issues related to cancers in women such as breast, cervical and ovarian cancers. The foundation is based at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.
