Christian Dior RTW Spring/Summer 2018
Paris Fashion Week

This is a much awaited event for the fashion forward community, the Paris Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2018 ready-to-wear. And within that, Christian Dior, now celebrating its 70th anniversary, is one of the most followed brands. All eyes were on creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, particularly so after her first bold show a year ago, where she rooted for feminism with T-shirts exhorting, ‘We Should All Be Feminists’. She kept up the tempo this time too. On every seat at the grand setting at the Musée Rodin – Paris, was placed a copy of the essay titled“Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” published by feminist art historian Linda Nochlin in 1971. And she opened the show too with a striped T-shirt with the same words printed in the front. For those wondering, why T-shirts from a luxury brand known for elegance, she countered with ‘Why not T-shirts?’ in an interview to another publication, “but luxury can also be a T-shirt, when it is made with expertise and the best cut.”  In her debut collection Chiuri’s T-Shirts with slogans flew off the racks and did brisk business.

This time, Chiuri sought inspiration from the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle and her works.  The expanse of the venue reflected the look of the fourteen-acre Tarot Garden, a sculpture park built by her in Grosseto Province of Tuscany, Italy. We bring select looks from the show.
