At the last Amazon India Couture Week in July 2015, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee collaborated with the shoe designer Christian Louboutin and the resultant footwear was worn by the models for his grand finale show. The response was phenomenal and everyone wanted that pair of exotica. Sabyasachi’s Haute Couture collection “Bater,” in reference to birds of prey, represented a mood that was dark, dangerous and predatory. The striking collection was complemented by the powerful creative collaboration between the two designers, leading to a beautiful amalgamation between Paris and India.
A year hence, Louboutin has obliged and the highly anticipated limited edition collection created in that collaboration with Sabyasachi Mukherjee, is now available at Christian Louboutin boutiques in New Delhi and Mumbai.
“Devibroda,” an embellished women’s sandal, pays homage to Sita Devi of Baroda. Made with quintessential Sabyasachi embroidery of acid-dyed burnt sequins and tea-dyed cotton threads, the sandals are intricately embellished with French knots to create an organic fringe of hand-knotted sequins.
The unique collection also includes the sexy signature “Victoria” platform, which has been embellished with two of Sabyasachi’s strongest and most iconic embroidery styles: burnt zardozi and vintage Parsi gara.
The men’s collection represents the baroque audacity of India’s majestic Maharajahs with contrasted European silhouettes. “Dandelion” stands strong with motifs of the Paradise flycatcher bird, created out of the finest quality of Parsi gara. The collection is available at Christian Louboutin boutiques in Delhi’s DLF Emporio Mall and in Mumbai at the H.C. Building in Kala Ghoda.
Christian Louboutin was created in 1992 when Louboutin opened his first boutique at 19 Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Paris. An artist and a craftsman with a true passion for shoes, his designs are unique and instantly recognizable, thanks in part to their signature and now trademarked red lacquered soles. Louboutin’s collections for both women and men combine wit, glamour, elegance and technical proficiency like none other. Since the brand’s launch, his creations have been immortalized in museums, on fashion week runways, red carpets, and in pop culture around the world.
A woman’s beauty has always been at the center of Louboutin’s inspiration, and 2014 welcomed the launch of Christian Louboutin Beauté with its first nail colour, Rouge Louboutin. The brand’s highly anticipated ‘second chapter’ of beauty, lip colour was launched in September 2015.
With a prolific collection of women’s and men’s shoes, day and evening handbags and small leather goods, Christian Louboutin now counts more than one hundred boutiques around the world, including several locations dedicated to men’s and a one-of-a-kind beauty boutique located in the heart of Paris’ 1st Arrondissement, just two doors away from 19 Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
