Italy - Lamborghini Egoista: The name says it all

If there is one car that demands all the attention on the road with all its oomph and roar, it is the Lamborghini in even its most sedate avatars. So when it came to unveiling the special version to commemorate their 50th anniversary, they pulled out all stops to up that quotient several times over. And called it Lamborghini Egoista! What else. This outrageously showy single seater has the looks of a fighter jet and is powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 that produces 600 hp. To pack into the seat, which is positioned in the middle of the car, the driver has to first use the electronic remote to lift the canopy and next remove the steering wheel, slide into place, fix steering wheel back, close canopy. Not very practical, but hey..practical is not what we are talking about.

Doesn’t need a psychoanalyst to decode the mind of the potential buyer, nevertheless Walter De Silva, the car’s designer and the design head for Volkswagen says it all in so many words, “It is designed purely for hyper-sophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world. It represents hedonism taken to the extreme; it is a car without compromises, in a word: egoista [“selfish”].” After that, it would take some nerve for a buyer to come forward and be identified. No worries on that front here, since Egoista is not for sale and is meant to only be a part of Lamborghini’s private collection. Basically, an anniversary indulgence, a gift by Lamborghini to itself that is what Egoista is. Selfish. (Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is part of Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi).
