The iconic head designer and creative director of the French luxury brand Chanel has extended his talent to design a 68 foot mural-style installation for the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo’s recently opened poolside lounge ‘Odyssey’, which is the celebrated French chef Joel Robuchon’s third dual concept restaurant. In keeping with the overall décor of the Mediterranean Monaco-based hotel, Lagerfeld has sought inspiration from Homer’s epics Iliad and the Odyssey. Twenty 18m x 3m panels, with photos of models in togas superimposed on a black & white image of Greek coastline dating1850-60, make up the installation. The entire panel is backlit by LEDs that keep changing as per the natural lighting around.
Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo is the winner of the "Best Hotel in the World 2010" title. Joel Robuchon’s new pool side restaurant ‘Odyssey’ will perform the dual role of a eatery by day and come nightfall, it will turn into a bar with live music and DJs. The celebrated chef and restaurateur Robuchon operates nearly 12 Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London, Macau, Monaco, Paris, Taipei, and Tokyo, with a total of 28 Michelin Guide stars among them. In 1989 the guide Gault Millau had given him the title of ‘Chef of the Century’.
