India – Neel Sutra introduces The Woven Chanderi Collection by Akaaro

gaurav-jai-gupta-collectionIn sync with the changing season, Neel Sutra has introduced Gaurav Jai Gupta’s line made of hand woven Chanderi fabric. The designer’s label Akaaro has crafted graphic, striped Chanderi tunics, shirts and shirtdresses, open knee length jackets, bias cut tunics, all in the shades of red, beige, gold and black. In addition to solid monotones and monochromes, the collection also has the light summery jackets in vibrant hues of mango yellow, faded pinks and cobalt blues.

Gaurav Jai Gupta’s expertise in woven textiles comes from his training at London’s Chelsea College of Art & Design. His range of clothes and accessories are all hand woven and sustainable. A finalist of British Council and Elle’s young creative fashion entrepreneurs awards 2010, his commitment to revive appreciation for contemporary Indian textiles has earned him critical acclaim and a list of high profile customers with the likes of Jimmy Choo, who asked him to design fabric for his sling backs. Gaurav has also set up a weave school at Sushantschool of design in Gurgaon to promote the growth of the Indian textiles industry.

Neel Sutra is a concept store incepted and co-curated by fashion designer DeepikaGovind and FDCI President Sunil Sethi.Located in the Oberoi Hotel, Gurgaon, it retails textile-oriented collections by designers like RohitBal, AnjuModi, Rahul Mishra, Pero, Abraham &Thakore amongst others.In addition to the above veteran designers, the store offers an exclusive ‘Sari Room’ offering bespoke hand woven saris and textiles in Kanjivaram, Patola Silk, Chanderi, Ikkat and Paithani weaves by master artisans from all over the country.
