Ankur Bhatia, the 48 year old Executive Director of Bird Group, passed away on Friday, 4 June, 2021, due to cardiac arrest. The news reported in all major business publications, was received with shock and sadness. The Bird Group issued an official statement of the tragic loss.“It is with profound grief that we inform you about the sudden demise of our beloved Dr. Ankur Bhatia, Executive Director, Bird Group.Dr. Bhatia (48) suffered a massive cardiac arrest this morning and succumbed to it.We have not only lost our leader, our visionary but the world has lost an astounding human being. The Bhatia family is in a state of deep shock and requests you to respect their privacy in this difficult time of grief.” He is survived by his parents Radha and Vijay Bhatia, his wife Smriti Bhatia and his two children, Arnav and Saina.
Ankur Bhatia was a dynamic personality, whose initiatives contributed to the growth of not just his Company, but the industry at large. With his vision, he set up several grown drivers for the Bird Group. Bhatia put his Computer Science degree to good use with several related ventures. In 1993 he set up a BPO business with Reservation Data Maintenance (India) Pvt. Ltd an IT enabled software development and service support company for managing back-end airline operations and inventory control. His travel technology venture for airlines Amadeus, changed the course of Indian tourism.His venture BirdRes, was a B2B distribution channel for the travel industry. Bird Technologies FZ LLC opened by him, is a IT Solutions & Services company in Dubai. His BirdApps, set up in 2017, is an on-demand marketplace for the travel, hospitality and lifestyle sectors.His subsidiary Bird Electric was directed toward electric mobility in India, with new-age mobility vehicles. He also launched India’s first indoor ice-skating rink and cafe – iSKATE in Ambience Mall, Gurugram. In March this year, he partnered to bid on buying out Air India. He spearheaded the hospitality venture under the Bird Hospitatlity Services, with the luxury landmark assets Roseate Hotels & Resorts.
His leadership and guidance will be missed by the staff and employees of Bird Group.
