It becomes important to keep old traditions alive, albeit also important to keep evolving in tune with the times, to remain relevant to the new gen. With this vision, the NGO Aryan Heritage Foundation has created a Broadway style dance –drama showcase of the epic Ramayana, a three-hour production ‘Sampurn Ramayana’. The shows are scheduled from October 13th-18th, 2018 from 7pm at Netaji Subhash Place, Pitampura, New Delhi. The shows are not ticketed to be accessible to everyone across the diaspora, and seating is on first-come-first basis.
This mega theatrical production retains the traditional costumes and narrative of the Ramlila as has been shown over hundreds of years, but has upped the scale of grandeur with a tighter script and high-tech effects. Visually stunning 3-D effect of the Multi-Layer LED Screens, a 180ft stage, divided into 6-sub stages, with 120 professional actors and dancers, 16 original sound tracks, the lighting effects, have the viewers glued to their seats for the 3-hour extravaganza.
The Sampurn Ramayana is directed by Shashidharan Nair and choreographed by Papiha Desai. Music Directors of the show are Chandra Kamal and Bharat Kamal. Renowned singer Udit Naryan has sung the title song. Kailash Kher lends his voice to Ravan’s introduction track. Mukesh Khanna has given the voice-over. The venue is large enough to accommodate 1,50,000 spectators.
The endeavor is the brainchild of Rajender Mittal, President of Aryan Heritage Foundation. Ishwar Bansal (Chairman, Aryan Heritage Foundation) says, “Sampurn Ramayana implements the vision of a Digital India, by presenting this Digi-Tale using state of the art technology.”
Rajender Mittal (President, Aryan Heritage Foundation) sums up, “Sampurn Ramayana is just the first step towards many spectacular shows about to come to reach out to the next generation. His next project would be based on the Bhagwat Gita, which will again be a 2-3 hour show, aimed mainly at the youth.”
