India – ASSOCHAM’s 11th National Summit on e-Governance & Digital India held in New Delhi

The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), organized the 11th National Summit on the burning issue of e-Governance & Digital India on Thursday, 10th September, 2015, held at the Hotel Taj Mahal, Man Singh Road, New Delhi. ASSOCHAM had the ‘official support’ of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship & Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India (GOI) in organizing this Summit.

The Summit was hugely successful, with the participation from all the key players in this field. The Government of India Officers and Ministers too were in attendance, and some very pertinent agendas got discussed.

Mr.J.S. Deepak, IAS, Secretary, Department of Electronics & Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & IT was the honorable Chief Guest. The inaugural Lighting of the Lamp was carried out by the Special Guest of Honor Mr R.S.Sharma, IAS, Chairman, TRAI & Former Secretary, Dept of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Communication and IT, GOI, Capt. Abhimanyu, Hon’ble Finance & Industry Minister, Govt of Haryana; Umang Das, Chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council on e-Governance&Digital India and Chief Mentor, Viom Networks.

Also present on the dais were Santosh Anoo, Senior Director Deloitte in India; Akhil Gupta, Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises & Executive Chairman, Bharti Infratel Ltd; Jay Chen, CEO Huawei, India; P.Balaji, Director, Regulatory, External Affairs & CSR Vodafone India and Member, ASSOCHAM; D.S.Rawat, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM.

The two pre-lunch sessions dealt with the issues of On-Demand multichannel electronic service delivery and Digital Infrastructure. The agenda addressed the status and impact of online services to citizens, smart city initiatives, cloud enablement of Government services, mobile governance, the Status and Pace of digital infrastructure, harmonized policy framework and key challenges etc.

Pramod Saxena, CMD, Oxigen Services presented the keynote address in the first session. Other participants in the panel discussion were Golok Simli, Principal Consultant & Head (Technology), Ministry of External Affairs, GOI; Arpan Bansal, Asst. Vice President, Head Centre of Excellence, Newgen Software; Mr Pradeep Sampath, coo, MMP Mobi Wallet Payment; Pankaj Sharma, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Uninor; Siddhartha Gupta, Head ( Strategic Industries), SAP India; Satpal Gulati, Addl Commissioner of Income Tax (CPC-TDS). The session was chaired by T.V. Ramachandran, Chairman ASSOCHAM National Council on Telecommunications.

The next session was chaired by Aruna Sundarajan, Administrator (USOF) & Chairman-cum-MD Bharat Net & Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. T.R.Dua, Director General, TAIPA was session moderator. Others panelists comprised R.K.Bahuguna, CMD, Railtel India; Anupam Shrivstava, CMD, BSNL; Sanjay Kaul, MD, India & SAARC, Cisco Systems; Sandeep Bhargava, EVP Coroporate Affairs & Public Policy, Vodafone, India; Sameer Rajwal, VP Enterprise Business Group, Huawei India; Ankit Agarwal, Global Head, Telecom Products, Sterlite Technologies.

For the post lunch session on Capacity Building, the Guest of Honor was Vijender Kumar, IAS, Secretary, IT, Haryana. Keynote Address was delivered by Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC. Anindya Mallick, Senior Director, Deloitte in India, Mohammed Y.Safirulla, IAS, Director, Kerala State IT Mission, Ritesh Mehta, Head of Economic Growth Initiatives, India & South Asia, Facebook; Pravin Srivastava, DDG (Emp), Ministry of Labout and Employment, Government of India; Loveneesh Chanana, Director, Govt. Relations, SAP India; Rajiv Arora, Director, Microsoft. The Valedictory Session had Deputy Chief Minister, Govt of NCT of Delhi Manish Sisodia.

ASSOCHAM is the Member of the Joint Working Group on Digital India being set up by the Department of Electronics & IT, Ministry of Communications and IT Government of India.

Digital governance has moved beyond government departments just having a portal. It is no longer confined to merely streamlining and automating processes. It is about transforming the way governments work and reinventing people’s participation in the democratic process. It is about empowering both the Government and Citizen. Technology will be the enabler for the citizen to transcend the boundaries of departments and ministries, and provide a single platform for interaction with its citizens, thus promoting participatory governance and increased transparency and revolutionising public service delivery.

Leading global technology companies like SAP India, Huawei India, Vodafone India, Vakrangee, BBNL were partners at this Summit. State Government of Haryana was the State Partner.
