India – Bihar Museum in Patna to host first-ever Museum Biennale

The Department of Arts, Culture and Youth Affairs, Government of Bihar is organizing a Bihar Museum Biennale, a first event of its kind in India. The event is to be hosted at the Bihar Museum in Patna. The weeklong virtual event will be held from 22 – 28 March  2021. The important dignitaries to be present at the inauguration ceremony on 22 March 2021, which is also Bihar Day, are Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, Anjani Kumar Singh, the Nodal Officer of the Bihar Museum and Advisor to the Chief Minister and Deepak Anand, Director, along with a select invitees.This event will bring the museums and their treasures back into the limelight, with its showcase of key collections from various museums across India and the world.

The Museum Biennale aims to sensitize the public to the importance and significance of museum culture in India and facilitate an understanding of our culture, building a strong sense of identity, nationhood and the self. It will host a 2-day virtual conference, masterclass, and talks. It will witness the participation of eminent personalities like British art historian Neil MacGregor; Hilary Knight, Digital Director at Tate; Dr Souraya Noujaim, the Scientific, Curatorial & Collections Management Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi; Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Director General of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) and also Director of the Postgraduate (Diploma) Programme in Museology and Art Conservation at CSMVS Institute, University of Mumbai. Javier Baron, Head of Department of Nineteenth-Century Painting at the Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain; among others.As per reports, 12 Indian museums are participating in the event, some of them being Assam State Museum; City Palace Museum, Udaipur; Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai; Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi; National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad; Virasat+Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib.
