Car of the Year – Lotus Exige S

3 mins read

The automobile publication Evo magazine has anointed the supercharged 3.5 V6 Exige S as the ‘Car of the Year’ after subjecting it to a gruelling test on the roads of Scotland. The Exige S shares the top post with the Italian mid-engine sports car Pagani Huayra. But we will talk about the cute looking Lotus Exige S.

The Lotus had announced earlier on, before the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, that it would stun the world with its reformed package, and it did. Weighing-in at 1176kg, the roadster is capable of reaching from 0 to 62mph in just under 4 seconds and to 100 mph in 8.5 seconds.

Of the nine participants, the Alpina B3 GT3, Toyota GT86, Mercedes C63 AMG Black and Morgan 3 Wheeler were eliminated in the first round. It is impressive that a £52,900 Exige S has tied-up with the £820,000 Pagani to share the title. The Exige S Roadster features the same design elements as the coupe version, except for the soft top.

The 2012 Exige S V6 is said to be approximately 25 cm longer and 5 cm wider than the model with the 4 cylinder engine, due to the larger space required to fit the V6 engine. Lotus customers can opt for a comfort enhanced plush interior or go for a more stripped down, sporty option. Motoring expert Richard Meaden, who is also the contributing editor at evo, has reportedly said this about the Exige S “I adore its looks, its presence. It’s like a little shrunk-down, condensed, distilled supercar.  And I love the fact that when you’re on the road and going for it, it just takes off.”
