As per reports, the boutique luxury hotel located in the heart of Lutyens Delhi, The Claridges, built in 1952, will have Taj Hotels manage the property for the next 25 years. Suresh Nanda of Claridges hopes to see the brand equity grow with this new partnership with Tata’s Indian Hotels Co. Ltd (IHCL), the parent of Taj Hotels. In the intervening last few years, The Claridges has undergone major renovations in its restaurants and rooms, scaling up the experience. Its Chinese restaurant Jade, the all-day dining multi-cuisine Pickwick, the old iconic Indian cuisine restaurant Dhaba, Thai restaurant Erawaan, Seville with outdoor seating, the two bars, the Cinqtuair Spa, have all been turned around in the recent past.
As of April 2025, the Taj will begin restructuring The Claridges to add to its Gateway and Vivanta Brands. IHCL’s iconic Taj Mahal Hotel on Man Singh Road is just a Kilometer away from The Claridges, as well as the other brand iconic Delhi hotel built in 1947, The Ambassador, which it partnered with in 1990. IHCL has 17 hotels in Delhi NCR in total and 3 more are likely to be added.
As per reports in the media, over the next five years IHCL is in plans to invest Rs5,000cr, that will see new hotel constructions and refurbishments of existing properties, to take the total tally of its hotels to 700. The new constructions will see resorts in Lakshadweep, Goa, in Shiroda Maharashtra, which is north of Goa and has the same pristine beaches, Kevadiya, now known as Ekta Nagar in Gujarat where the Statue of Unity stands. IHCL has reported 27.4% growth since same period last year, having shown consolidated operational revenue of Rs1,826.12cr for the second quarter ended 30th September. Net profit growth by an impressive 225% to Rs587.71cr. Between April and October 2024, IHCL signed up 42 hotels, which includes 3 hotels across Bhutan and Bahrain.
