The latest plan unfolding at Isha Ambani-headed Reliance Retail is the acquisition of a stake in the American fashion retailer Prabal Gurung’s lifestyle label by Reliance Brands Ltd (RBL). The luxury flagship stores of the same will be set up at Reliance Retail’s Jio World malls.

Designer Prabal Gurung is well-known entity whose list of patrons includes the likes of the erstwhile American First Lady Michelle Obama, Hollywood stars Anne Hathaway, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Bollywood stunners like Deepika Padukone. He retails in twenty countries across the world.


Singapore born Gurung is of Nepalese origin, whose fashion journey started in India at NIFT in Delhi, from where he went on to Parsons in New York. He made his mark at the launch of his line at the 2009 New York Fashion Week. He is now an American citizen.

Reliance Brands Limited has built up an impressive portfolio of 50 international brands since its inception in 2007. The labels cater to the segments of luxury, bridge-to-luxury, high-premium and high-street lifestyle, such as Tiffany & co., Burberry, Armani Exchange, Jimmy Choo, Bottega Venetta et al. Of the Indian designer labels, RBL holds a 51% stake in designer label Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and all its supplementary offerings, including GULABO by Abu Sandeep, ASAL by Abu Sandeep and MARD by Abu Sandeep. Besides, RBL has 40% stake in designer Manish Malhotra label, and has partnered with designers Satya Paul, Raghavendra Rathore, Ritu Kumar, Anamika Khanna, Rahul Mishra and Abraham & Thakore.
