Sri Lanka – Luxury resort Anantara opens doors in beautiful Tangalle, Sri Lanka

The exotic island of Sri Lanka has a new holiday destination for the luxury traveller, with the opening ofAnantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, a month ago. Tangalle is a fishing village, set on a secluded beach along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The resort is set amidst a 21-acre coconut plantation that opens onto a golden sweep of beach and the warm clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

The Anantara, Tangalle has 152 ocean-view guest rooms and villas inspired by ethnic décor and furnishings, interconnecting options for friends and accommodation for the differently-abled guests as well. There are 120 guest rooms kitted out with all the trappings of luxury, rain shower, oval bathtub, balcony with daybed. The 32 one- and two-bedroom villas come with private plunge pool, loungers, dining under the stars, Bose sound system and more.

Six restaurant, bar and lounge venues showcase vibrant island cuisine and delightful colonial customs. There is the all-day international dining restaurant Journeys, serving world classic cuisine, Sri Lankan, Middle Eastern and Asian specialities. Verele beach restaurant, which opens in early 2016, will serve Sri Lankan inspired Teppanyaki dining for lunch and dinner. There is the Italian restaurant Il Mare, offering freshly made pasta and the best fresh catch from the sea. The bar El Vino is about tapas and wine degustation menus. Dining by Design, is about a choice of connoisseur menus and idyllic settings, alongside the services of a personal chef and villa host. By day the poolside bar serves refreshing beverages, light bites and sundowners cocktails, and for a charming retreat the lobby lounge offers high tea with a Sri Lankan twist. The Anantara Spa is rooted in Ayurveda. It has eight treatment suites, a reflexology centre and a beauty and hair salon.

The allure of the resort is matched by convenient travel; Cinnamon Air offers a daily 40-minute sea-plane flight from Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport to Dickwella, a ten minute drive from the resort. Other transport options include chartering a private flight, helicopter transfers or making use of the resort’s luxury Hybrid SUV transfer service, a three and a half hour drive.
