India – Mei Kun at Kempinski Ambience Hotel, New Delhi brings Thailand to India

3 mins read

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Mei Kun, the Thai speciality restaurant at Kempinski Ambience Hotel in Kar Kar Dooma, New Delhi. The hotel has introduced a Thai festival for food enthusiasts and gourmands which will last from 10th July to 19th July 2015.

My observation

Mei Kun is an elegant and simplistic restaurant set in the heart of the hotel overlooking lush green trees. The chefs incorporate authentic ingredients with local produce to produce some truly spectacular dishes.

Especially for this festival, the restaurant has invited one of the most sought after cuisiniers of Thai delicacies, Chef Kwan, from Siam Kempinski Bangkok along with Executive Chef Rohit Tokhi to give diners an experience of local Thai dishes with heart-warming hospitality and unmatched expertise.

Check out the appetizers such as Yam Som O (Spicy Pomelo salad with vegetables), Kor Moo Yang (Thai Style Grilled Pork Neck) and Goong Thod Kratium Prik Thai (Fried Shrimp in Garlic and Pepper) all well-balanced, delectable starters. Also recommend the Tom Yum Goong soup which was unarguably one of the finest I’ve had in a while; the perfect amount of chilli (not hurting one’s throat) and the perfect quantity of lemongrass made this consume unforgettable.

The entrée I checked and approved – Pla Kra Pong Rad Prik (Fried Red Snapper in Chilli Sauce); the exquisite Musamun Gai (Chicken in Musamun Curry) and the delicious Mhoo Phad Prig Thai Dum (Stir Fried Pork with Black Peppercorn Sauce) along with the usuals: Phad Thai Goong and Khao Suey to compliment the enticing carte du jour. Make a detour this weekend.

The climax was soothed by a dreamy array of desserts which included Kluy Buad Chee (Banana in Coconut Milk) and Kow Neuw Moon (Sticky Rice with Mango). And obviously, not to mention, there were plenty of shrimp and potato crackers along with bottomless jasmine tea to keep me company while I waited for each course.

The General Manager of the hotel said, “This festival is our endeavour to introduce the magic of Thai cuisine to our guests. Through our warm hospitality and talent of Executive Chef Rohit Tokhi and Chef Kwan, we promise to make this festival a memorable gourmet dining experience” to which Chef Kwan added by saying, “With flavours both savoury and sweet, my special creations are aimed at giving guests a one way ticket to Thailand.”

And I’m glad to say, Chef Kwan managed to do exactly as promised. The meal was memorable and impeccable and is most certainly worth checking out.

The special preset menu at Mei Kun is priced at 1400/1600++ (1900hrs to 2345hrs). A la carte is also available.
