The finals of the Polo tournament Sir Pratap Singh Cup 2018, culminated at the Jaipur Polo grounds, with an exciting clash between Sanjay Kapoor’s team Sona Koyo and Sameer Suhag led La Pegasus, with the former lifting the trophy. The event commemorated the Centenary Year of The Battle of Haifa 1918 – 2018). The Jodhpur Lancers, raised by Lt. Gen. Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh (born on 22nd October 1845 into the royal family of Marwar-Jodhpur), had their Finest Hour at the Battle of Haifa on 23rd September 1918. On horse, with lance and sword against machine gun, their action and victory is yet regarded by many as “the last great cavalry charge of the modern era”. The elegant event was hosted by Taj Mahal, New Delhi, Taj Palace New Delhi and Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, who had jointly curated a memorable afternoon.
Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat and the Quartermaster general Lt. General Ashok Ambre, and H.H. Maharaja Gajsingh II of Marwar-Jodhpur officiated over the event, and gave away the awards. Adding colour, music and glamour to the ceremony were the 17th Sikh Li military band, who gave a sterling performance.
The event was attended by city’s eminent guests, polo enthusiasts, including, Naveen Jindal, His Excellency Jean Claude Kugener, Ambassador of Luxembourg in India, Neelima Agrawal CEO The Luxury Chronicle, Priya Sachdev, Shahana Mookerjea, among others.
