Happy World Whisky Day!!!

Hear ye, hear ye!
All those out there who did not know already, please be informed that the third Saturday of May each year is officially the World Whisky Day. That would be 15 May 2021. The informed ones please continue, pour your selves another round of that whiskey or whisky. Further, to add to the general knowledge, this noble day was founded in 2012 by a 21 years old college kid Blair Bowman, who was at that time enrolled at the University of Aberdeen for a course in Hispanic studies. He got a domain name for the website. For obvious reasons, Scotland recognized the event and promptly made it official. Bowman since, found his calling and has made a career as a whisky aficionado. The key requirement for celebrating the day is simple – pour whisky (any brand), on the rocks or neat or with soda or water or mix a cocktail – raise a toast – drink. Nevertheless, we have some data here for you on a few good Scotch varieties. In addition, some fancy cocktail recipes for changing the dank mood that is prevailing in these terrible days and months of lockdowns and disease.

GlenfiddichThe Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by William Grant & Sons is one of the most awarded whiskies worldwide. To celebrate the World Whisky Day, the Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador Angad Singh Gandhi, Glenfiddich India, has shared a few cocktail recipes he concocted.

Glenfiddich Scofflaw

Ingredients: 45 ml Glenfiddich IPA
10 ml Grenadine
22 ml Lime Juice
20 ml Dry Vermouth
Angostura Aromatic Bitters (2-3 dashes)
Orange peel
Instructions:
Add the whisky, Grenadine, lime juice, dry Vermouth and bitters into a cocktail shaker Shake all the ingredients for about 10-15 seconds Double strain into an Coupe glass Garnish with an orange peel
Glenfiddich Scotch and Schnapps

Ingredients:
50 ml of Glenfiddich 12 year old
30 ml Peach Schnapps
Sparkling water
Orange wedge
Instructions:
Pour whisky and Peach Schnapps into a tall glass Add a few cubes of ice into the glass and top it up with clear sparkling water Give it a nice stir and garnish with an orange wedge- squeeze slightly

ORANGE MINGLE

Glassware: Nick & Nora
Ingredients
45 ml – Glenmorangie Original
2 ml – Orange Marmalade
10 ml – Aperol
15 ml – Lemon Juice
10 ml – Orange Juice
25 ml – Egg White
Orange Bitters Garnish: Edible Flowers
Directions Add all ingredients to a shaker and reverse dry shake. Double strain into a nick and nora glass. Garnish with bitters and edible flowers.
THE ORANGE HIGHBALL

Glassware: Highball
Ingredients:
50 ml of Glenfiddich 12 year old
30 ml Peach Schnapps
Sparkling water
Orange wedge
Directions:Fill a highball with ice and add Glenmorangie. Squeeze on wedge into the glass and then top with Soda and Tonic Water. Garnish with an Orange Wedge.
GLENMORANGIE GINGER LEMON

Ingredients
50 ml – Glenmorangie Original
7.5 ml – Sweet Vermouth
7.5 ml – Ginger Syrup*
2 Dashes – Angostura Bitters
1 Dash – Orange Bitters
Garnish: Lemon Twist, Crystallised Ginger
Directions
Add all ingredients to mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until well chilled, strain into an old-fashioned glass with a block of ice. Garnish with a lemon twist and crystallised Ginger.

Ardbeg 10 year old – Revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all, Ardbeg 10 year old it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance. Named World Whisky of the Year in 2008, the spirit is an explosion of crackling peat setting off millions of flavour explosions. The peat effervesces with tangy lemon and limejuice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. Then comes a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows, presenting a single malt scotch like no other.

Shortie’s Dirty Daiquiri

Ingredients
50 ml – Ardbeg 10 Years Old
20 ml – Cloudy Apple Juice
20 ml – Fresh Lime Juice
10 ml – Vanilla Syrup
Directions:
Shake all ingredients over ice before straining into a chilled coupe glass.
Weird Island Highball

Ingredients:
50 ml – Ardbeg 10 Years Old
20 ml – Strawberry Liquer
120 ml – Tonic Water
Garnish: Rosemary Sprig and Lime Wedge
The King’s Last Dram

Ingredients
50 ml – Ardbeg 10 Years Old
15 ml – Raspberry Syrup
20 ml – Fresh Lemon Juice
10 ml – Egg White
2 Banana Slices
1 Dash – Salt Solution
Garnish: Crispy Bacon
Directions
Dry shake all ingredients before adding ice and shaking again. Strain into a tumbler filled with a block of ice. Garnish with crispy bacon wafer.

Ardbeg Wee Beastie – Limited edition 5 year old just introduced in India, this is the youngest single malt Islay whisky from Ardbeg distillery established in 1815, owned by Glenmorangie Company since 1997. Matured just for 5 years, this youngest Ardbeg is a raw, smoky, tongue-tingling, beautifully smoky dram. Matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for just five years, the bright Auric coloured Wee Beastie bristles with intense aromas of cracked black pepper, sappy pine resin and sharp tangs of smoke. An explosive mouthfeel bursts forth with chocolate, creosote and tar. The aftertaste is of a long, salty and mouth-coating finish with hints of cocoa, fudge and savoury barbecue.
