Between Wind and Wool: Ladakh Design was inaugurated on January 17 at the Innovation Gallery, National Crafts Museum & Hastakala Academy. Part of Textile Gallery II: Tradition & Innovation, the exhibition presents contemporary interpretations of Ladakh’s textile heritage through design, sustainability and cultural continuity.  Featuring works by 2112 Saldon; Jigmat Couture (Jigmat Norbu and Jigmat Wangmo); Namza Couture (Padma Yangchan); and Zilzom by Stanzin Palmo, the showcase includes sculptural installations, ceremonial garments, ritual objects, and ensembles in handwoven wool and pashmina. The pieces reflect Ladakh’s spiritual ethos, high-altitude environment and material traditions.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Kavinder Gupta, IAS, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, with Ms. Amrita Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), as Guest of Honour. Curated by Sunil Sethi with support from the FDCI team, the exhibition positions Ladakhi textiles as dynamic, living practices rather than static heritage.

Landscape portraits by Gautam Kalra (Creative Direction & Styling) and Hormis Anthony Tharakan (Visual Direction & Photography) further strengthen the dialogue between Ladakhi design and its dramatic terrain.

Between Wind and Wool: Ladakh Design Today explores how geography, climate and pastoral traditions have shaped Ladakh’s wool and pashmina culture, and how contemporary designers reinterpret spinning, weaving, resist-dyeing and garment construction into modern forms while remaining rooted in tradition.

Shri Ashish Kundra, Chief Secretary UT Ladakh

The exhibition is open to the public until the end of March 2026 at the National Crafts Museum & Hastakala Academy, New Delhi.
