Italian architect Stefano Tardito has received the Rēgula 2025 Award in the Hospitality category for the restoration of Borgo di Monchiero, a historic complex in the Langhe region of Piedmont, province of Cuneo. The project will open as Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, marking the first Italian hotel by Atmosphere Core. The recognition was conferred at the 8th edition of the Rēgula | 100 Italian Projects Award, an annual platform that highlights Italian excellence in architecture, design and creativity, with a focus on innovation, urban regeneration and environmental sustainability.

Tardito’s work was cited as a notable example of adaptive reuse, transforming an 18th-century monastic and religious complex into a contemporary heritage hospitality destination. The jury acknowledged the project for its integration of aesthetics and technology, and for expressing Italian cultural quality while advancing architectural and engineering innovation.

Commenting on the award, Stefano Tardito said the project is “based on a delicate balance between conservation and enhancement, guided by authentic historical research and technological innovation.” He added that the restoration allows the monastery to retain its historical authenticity while evolving into immersive spaces, enabling the site to “be reborn and become an exceptional narrator of its past.”

The award has further heightened anticipation for the opening of Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, which represents the first step in Atmosphere Core’s European expansion. The property is located in the UNESCO-listed Langhe landscape, recognised for its vineyards and natural beauty.

Property owners Franco Giampetruzzi and Gian Maria Debenedetti welcomed the recognition, noting that it celebrates both the architect’s restoration work and the enduring spirit of the site. They reiterated their commitment to preserving the property’s heritage while guiding it into a new phase.

Guests will experience the Rēgula-recognised restoration through preserved architectural details, tranquil cloisters and panoramic viewpoints integrated with contemporary comforts. Set on a hill overlooking vineyards and surrounding hills, the resort comprises 19 rooms, converted from former monastic cells and designed with a timeless aesthetic.

Facilities include an ancient private chapel repurposed as a multi-use space for intimate ceremonies, a restaurant with a dedicated wine room focused on local cuisine, and an elegant lounge bar housed in frescoed rooms overlooking a panoramic outdoor swimming pool in the front garden. A wellness area occupies the basement, featuring vaulted brick rooms with saunas, sensory showers, relaxation spaces, and a heated indoor pool installed within the monastery’s former terracotta cistern.

Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere is positioned as a retreat for international travellers, wine enthusiasts and admirers of Piedmontese cuisine seeking a restorative stay in one of northern Italy’s most evocative regions.
