Expanding its European footprint, Atmosphere Core has appointed Italian hotelier Francesco Giovannelli as Monastero Manager of Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, the group’s first heritage property in Italy under the Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Located in the UNESCO-listed Langhe hills of Piedmont, the appointment signals a strategic milestone for Atmosphere Core as it enters Europe’s heritage hospitality segment.

Francesco Giovannelli Joins As Monastero Manager At Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere

Commenting on the role, Giovannelli said he is honored to lead the project, noting that his priority will be to work closely with on-property teams to translate the property’s heritage character into operational excellence and a cohesive guest experience across touchpoints.

Giovannelli brings more than 15 years of hospitality leadership experience across Italy, including Piedmont and Tuscany. His career spans operational management, revenue coordination and service delivery, supported by a strong understanding of regional cultures and guest expectations. He has previously been recognized by Leading Hotels of the World for service excellence and received the Hospitality Award 2025.

Ashwin Handa, Chief Operating Officer at Atmosphere Core, stated that the appointment reflects the company’s approach to leadership selection, combining commercial and operational capability with sensitivity to local context. He added that Giovannelli’s experience aligns with the positioning of Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, where historical character and contemporary hospitality converge.

Originally built in 1773, Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere is a restored 18th-century monastery set within the Langhe wine region, known for Barolo and Barbera production. The three-storey hillside retreat features 19 rooms converted from former monastic cells and incorporates preserved frescoes and Romanesque architectural elements. Facilities include a private chapel for weddings and ceremonies, a restaurant highlighting regional cuisine, a lounge bar, a panoramic swimming pool, and a wellness area with sauna, infrared therapies and a private jacuzzi located within a historic water reservoir.
