Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse – Family
In the realm of fine living, a luxury pen transcends function to become an expression of identity and intent. Crafted with precious materials and meticulous detail by maisons such as Montblanc and Cartier, it transforms writing into a refined ritual—one that endures as both object and heirloom, an embodiment of artistry and heritage for the collectors and connoisseurs. In its continuing dialogue between art and craftsmanship, Montblanc turns to Henri Matisse—the master of colour, contour, and radical simplicity. A defining force of 20th-century modernism, Matisse reimagined visual language through bold chromatic expression, fluid forms, and an enduring pursuit of purity—whether in Fauvist canvases, sculpture, or his lyrical cut-outs.
Created in collaboration with Maison Matisse, the Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse collection distils key chapters of the artist’s oeuvre into a series of highly collectible writing instruments. The forms echo his sculptural vocabulary—organic, fluid, essential—while signature details such as the clip draw from his celebrated cut-outs, notably The Sheaf (1953). Across editions, proportions adhere to the golden ratio, reinforcing a timeless sense of harmony intrinsic to both art and design.
The Limited Edition 4810, inspired by Blue Nude III (1952), translates Matisse’s cut-out technique into a vivid interplay of blue and white lacquer. The composition subtly reveals the female figure as the barrel turns, mirroring the artist’s process of “drawing with scissors.” Platinum fittings, a sculptural clip, and a rhodium-coated Au 750 gold nib engraved with lithographic motifs complete the piece—issued in 4,810 fountain pens and rollerballs, in homage to Mont Blanc’s elevation.

Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse – LE 888
With the Limited Edition 888, Montblanc explores Matisse’s fascination with textiles through The Romanian Blouse (1940). Rich red and blue lacquer evoke painted canvas, while embroidered motifs are reinterpreted through intricate detailing. The mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem is set within black onyx, and the Au 750 gold nib features Large Face (Mask) (1952). Limited to 888 pieces, the edition reflects both decorative opulence and compositional balance.

Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse – LE 161
The Limited Edition 161 traces Matisse’s transformative journey to Tahiti in 1930—a pivotal moment that inspired works such as Window in Tahiti. A cap in engraved sterling silver captures the view from his Papeete window, while a cocobolo wood barrel references traditional tapa textiles. Paua shell, rose gold accents, and a nib engraved with the golden ratio symbol (Φ) and motifs from Polynesia, The Sky articulate a dialogue between nature, geometry, and artistic renewal. Limited to 161 pieces, it embodies harmony and exploration.

Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse – LE 96
Movement and rhythm define the Limited Edition 96, an homage to The Dance II. Vivid blue and turquoise lacquer is encircled by sculpted bronze dancers, their forms animated through delicate engraving. Turquoise stone, red jasper, and rose gold fittings heighten the visual drama, while the gold nib carries Matisse’s signature motifs. Limited to 96 pieces, it marks the year 1896, when Matisse first exhibited—capturing the genesis of his artistic ascent.

Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse – LE 8
At the pinnacle sits the Limited Edition 8, inspired by Purple Robe and Anemones (1937). Crafted in solid white gold, the piece becomes a canvas in itself—adorned with hand-applied enamel, intricate engravings, and a constellation of gemstones, from jade and carnelian to pavé-set and cognac diamonds. The nib, set with a brilliant-cut diamond and engraved with Large Face (Mask), reflects the ultimate convergence of artistry and savoir-faire. Limited to just eight pieces, it stands as a rarefied tribute to Matisse’s poetic vision.
