India – NIFT Mumbai celebrates 25th Annual Fest Spectrum 2020

The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai, celebrated the 25th edition of its annual fest, Spectrum on 21-22 February, 2020. Meher Castelino, former Miss India and renowned fashion journalist, was the Chief Guest at the event, along with Director of Mumbai Campus, Prof. Dr. Pavan Godiawala. The guests of honorat the event were the two acclaimed artists,Yashwant Deshmukh and Suryakant Lokhande. The event was inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by the luminaries lead by Meher Castelino, followed by a Odissidance performance composed by guest faculty Sharmistha Chattopadhyay.

NIFT showcased its Craft Cluster program, related to folk arts and crafts of India, at  the Crafts Bazaar. The event commemorated the journey of NIFT Mumbai, from Dadarwhere it started with batches of 15 students per class, to Kharghar, where it now has nine departments with around 40 students each per batch.

The theme for the 25th Spectrum was ‘Revival Remix: A Pendulum Of Time’ aimed at a colorful union of the classic and contemporary Indian pop culture, a transformative reflection on the trends then and now. Meher Castelino, Yashwant Deshmukh and Director Lokhande were the honorable jury in assessing the installations created by each department.

With over 900 participants from 72 colleges and 30 events ranging from dance to design, Spectrum 2020 witnessed a footfall of over 3000 visitors. The Campus Princess contest was organized by NIFT Mumbai in conjunction with Miss India Organisation. Altamash Faraz, Mr. Supranational Asia & Oceania 2017 was present to judge the pageant along with Bennett Nathan, Brand Head of Campus Princess. FILA India also paid a visit with their own shoe designing competition and a talk by their Head and interns.

Contests held over the two days were in the category of dance, singing, literature, battle of the bands, styling and makeup,sports including futsal, badminton, volleyball and basketball, cooking without fire, T-shirt design and movie poster design with prizes sponsored by Wacom.

The annual fashion show on Friday night highlighted the apparel designed and constructed by the 2nd, 3rdand 4th year students of Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Textile Design and Fashion Technology. Vashi’s Time Machine Unisex Salon took care of the hair and makeup. The students walked the ramp to model the apparel. NIFT Mumbai alumna Pranati Rai Prakash (winner of India’s Next Top Model 2016 and Femina Miss India Finalist 2015) was the Chief Guest and member of the jury panel for the show alongside Akash Choudhary (winner of Mr. Eco International 2018 and Rubaru Mr India 2016).

The show was opened with a kids wear collection, showcased by children of 4 to 6. On show were lines of streetwear, menswearand evening wear, which included evening gowns. Knitwear Design student Avi Roy presented the line ‘Jugnu’. The festivities wrapped up with an EDM night by D J Sau.
