New Delhi,
As International Saree Day approached, FICCI FLO and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), along with the Ministry of Textiles, hosted a memorable evening titled Woven Whispers – A Journey of Craft to Commerce at the National Crafts Museum, Pragati Maidan, on December 14, 2025.

The event featured engaging discussions about India’s handloom legacy, curated art displays, and a notable fashion show by leading designers Abraham & Thakore, Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta, Lahé Looms by Jahnabi Phookan, and Advaya. Each designer offered a modern yet respectful take on the six-yard drape. They celebrated its versatility, cultural richness, and lasting importance.

International Saree Day, or World Saree Day, is marked each year on December 21, coinciding with the winter solstice. The initiative started as a social media campaign led by Indian journalists to honor the country’s iconic saree. It has since grown into a global celebration of its cultural importance. The day highlights the saree’s various regional styles, handloom artistry, and sustainable fashion qualities while promoting appreciation and support for the artisan communities behind the craft.

The evening reminded everyone of the rich history, skilled craftsmanship, and cultural stories woven into each saree. It reinforced the garment’s status as a cherished piece, not just in India but across the globe.
