Switzerland,
April 2022

Switzerland, as popular for its Alpine ski slopes as it is for the ultimate sweet treat of Swiss Chocolate, had officially proclaimed and reasserted its title as the Chocolate Capital of the World with the opening of the Lindt chocolate museum, also known as Lindt Home of Chocolate! The  Lindt chocolate museum opened in the thick of the pandemic on September 13, 2020, but has quickly become a draw as global travel has resumed. The museum is located just 10 minutes south of Zurich, in Kilchberg, sitting next to the historic Lindt & Sprüngli factory building in Kilchberg.

The Lindt Home of Chocolate

The Lindt Home of Chocolate is the home of the renowned Master Chocolatiers, inviting guests from around the world to immerse themselves into the whimsical world of premium Swiss chocolate. In addition to the research plant with an open-view production line, the Lindt Home of Chocolate also features a 1500-square-meter exhibition that takes visitors on a journey into the world of premium chocolate. There are a series of interactive displays and life-like illustrious models to showcase the chocolatier’s journey. Guests get a first-hand experience of chocolate history, starting from the cultivation of the cocoa pod to its metamorphosis into exquisite, fine chocolate.

After absorbing all these stimulating facts about chocolate, visitors complete the tour in the tasting room, where numerous masterpieces await to be sampled and devoured. The exhibition also provides a glimpse into some of the secrets of chocolate production.

The key highlight is the giant 9.3 meters tall chocolate fountain, which holds 1,500 kg of real chocolate. As weightless as the chocolate fountain may seem, a lot of construction, planning, and material has gone into it.

It weighs a total of three tons, including fine chocolate. This flows through the fountain at a speed of one kilo per second. To make this possible, pipes with a total length of 94 meters were laid inside the chocolate fountain.

Main attractions at the Museum

The facility combines maximum flexibility and functionality with the highest quality implementation and is available to chocolate producers and research institutes, and universities. The Lindt Home of Chocolate also houses the world’s largest Chocolate Museum, Switzerland’s very first Lindt Café, as well as the Chocolateria for courses in chocolate making, all of which are operated by the subsidiary Lindt & Sprüngli Schweiz AG.

The Lindt Swiss premium chocolate is the main project of the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation and represents a comprehensive information platform for the wider public. “The Lindt Home of Chocolate will play an important role in safeguarding Switzerland’s position as a chocolate country in the long-term, as well as contribute to the transfer of knowledge across the entire industry,” explains Ernst Tanner, President of the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation. More than 100 million Swiss francs were invested in the Chocolate Competence Center. Situated close to Zurich and benefiting from excellent public transport connections, the new attraction will provide an exciting destination for up to 350,000 chocolate fans from Switzerland and abroad.
