India – Taj Palace recreates historic Independence Day menu of 14th August, 1947

taj-menu-independence-dayOn the triumphant eve of India’s first Independence Day on 14th August, 1947, Hotel Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai created a specially curated menu for its guests. The dishes were sumptuous enough by the standard of those times when rationing was in place. The Independence Day Dinner Menu carried a notification on top, “By Govt Order Soup plus one dish of A with B or C OR Band C can be served.”

The 1947 menu showcased an authentic take on the classics served 70 years ago. Check out the array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes from across the country, with French names such as the soups Consommé a Indienne, Velouté d’ amandes(almond soup), Crêpes aux épinards à l’ail, sauce au tomates

Keeping alive the spirit of celebration and the memory of the historic moment, Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi presented the same menu at Capital Kitchen on the occasion of the 70th year of Indian Independence. The menu, priced at a special price of INR 1947 plus taxes, was available at some of Taj’s iconic city hotels: The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai; Taj Palace, New Delhi; Taj Coromandel, Chennai; Taj Bengal, Kolkata; Taj West End, Bangalore; Taj Krishna, Hyderabad, Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad and St. James Court, A Taj hotel, London.
